Titre : Research Topics on Business Process Management: Workflow Patterns, Healthcare and Ontologies

Lucinéia Heloisa Thom, professeur de l'UFRGS (Institute of Informatics of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul) est de passage sur le campus d'Evry. Elle fera une présentation de ses travaux de recherche Vendredi 16 novembre à 10h30 salle A008.

Abstract:

Recently, a variety of workflow patterns was suggested for capturing different aspects in business processes including control and data flow, resources, process change, and exception handling. All these patterns are highly relevant for implementing business processes and for designing process modeling languages. However, current patterns provide only a partial answer to the question which business functions a designer might want to reuse when modeling processes. In this talk I will present results from the ProWAP project.ProWAP targets at an approach to increase the reuse of recurrent business functions when designing business processes. One of the basic pillars is provided by a set of workflow activity patterns which are close to the abstraction level or vocabulary used within an organization. This fosters pattern reuse when modeling business processes and therefore contributes to more standardized and better comparable business process models. In addition, I will introduce core results of a research being developed in the healthcare area whose goal is to get a deeper understanding of clinical work practices and to better understand how IT process support should look like for them. Altogether, adequate handling of failure and exceptions in healthcare information systems, while still enables a certain level of control and assistance to clinical staff. Finally, I will conclude introducing a recent research I am developing in the area of process design and ontology building.

Short Biography: Lucinéia Heloisa Thom was recently approved as full professor at the Institute of Informatics of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul. From 2010 to 2011, Lucinéia was visiting scientist at the Sigma Team of University Joseph Fourier, Grenoble. Since 2010 she is also Post-doc researcher at the Institute of Informatics of Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul. From 2007-2009 she was post-doc researcher at the Institute of Database and Information Systems of Ulm University working with Prof. Manfred Reichert. She received a Bachelor degree in Computer Science from the University of Santa Cruz do Sul, Brazil and a Master degree in Computer Science from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), Brazil in 1999 and 2002, respectively. In 2006 she received her PhD in Computer Science from UFRGS. From 2004 to 2005 she developed part of her thesis research abroad in Institute for Parallel and Distributed Systems at University of Stuttgart. Her research interests are in the area of process management, workflow patterns, process mining, healthcare information systems and ontology. In these areas she has many published papers.
